Dyslexia Assessment in Saint Pete, FL
You know your child is intelligent. You have seen them excel in a variety of areas. You know they can comprehend difficult ideas, so why are they struggling to complete their homework or failing to grasp seemingly simple concepts at school? Even the most intelligent students can struggle with language. This difficulty grasping the written or spoken word, known as dyslexia, can make traditional, classroom learning difficult. Some parents and educators assume these students aren’t applying themselves. Actually, people who struggle with dyslexia are highly intelligent and hardworking, but they will need additional support and guidance to navigate an educational environment that relies so heavily on language. Thorough dyslexia assessment in St. Pete, the Pinellas Psychology Associates team can help individuals with dyslexia develop their strengths, understand their challenges, and create plans to succeed in the classroom, workplace, and beyond. Our team serves all of the Tampa Bay area in our St. Pete office, and we offer online testing services for residents of Florida.
Why Would I Schedule Dyslexia Assessment?
Watching our children (or ourselves) struggle is painful. We all deserve every opportunity to be successful. Dyslexia can make every stage of life difficult. From delayed speech development to struggles with learning to read, write, and comprehend language, dyslexia impacts individuals in the classroom, workplace, and even their social lives (try taking a road trip when you can’t make sense of maps or quickly read road signs speeding past your car window). Dyslexia testing in our office is the first step to understanding your beautiful, complex brain, taking power over the challenges you’ll face, and leading a more satisfying life – so let’s get started!
What Happens During Dyslexia Assessment?
When you partner with the Pinellas Psychology Associates team, we will help you to understand individual strengths and struggles with dyslexia. Then, we can provide information and reports to help gain access to classroom and testing accommodations and other resources and support to help improve your own or your child’s experience with daily life. For many people struggling with dyslexia, at any age, the most important outcome of testing is less frustration in dealing with tasks surrounding language and communication.
During a dyslexia assessment, we will review health and educational history, past testing, documentation from physicians and educators, and other resources. We want to interview and observe the person undergoing testing. Then, we will administer a personalized testing battery in order to assess skill levels. After the interviews and testing, we’ll evaluate and compile the data. You’ll receive a report that can be helpful in finding appropriate accommodations and resources either in the classroom for school aged children or to make work and other aspects of life easier to navigate.
Are You Ready to Begin Assessment or Counseling Services with Our Team?
With assessment, we can help you better understand who you are, maximize your strengths, and move beyond challenges. Your struggles don’t need to define what you’re capable of, but they can help you develop into the person you were meant to be. Through therapy, there is a way to address the issues you face every day. A therapist can help you learn coping strategies to use both right now and in the future, so the results of therapy will last. We are here to help you learn to live as your most authentic self.
